100,000 wire cages
Individual wire cages will be measured for each pipe of the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline. The wire cages serve to reinforce the concrete weight coating and ensure that it adheres to the steel pipes. Almost half of the 200,000 pipes needed for the Nord Stream 2 project will be concrete weight coated at Wasco’s coating plants in Kotka, Finland. The amount of concrete used varies according to which section of the pipeline they will be used for: The deeper the pipe is laid under water, the thicker the concrete coating is to resist pressure.
