Due to the amendment of the Continental Shelf Act (1 January 2018) and awaiting the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs's recommendation, which is pending since January 2018, Nord Stream 2 AG decided to explore alternative routes outside of Danish territorial waters.
On 10 August 2018, Nord Stream 2 submitted an application for construction together with an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for an alternative route north-west of Bornholm. A public consultation phase took place between October and December 2018. During this period, Danish authorities, citizens and other interested parties including international stakeholders had the opportunity to state their opinions on the EIA documentation.
At the end of the public consultation, Nord Stream 2 received all the statements handed in by national and international stakeholders and then provided answers to these. The application is now ready for a decision by the Danish Energy Agency.
