Ongoing controls during concrete weight coating in Kotka
Almost half of the 200,000 pipes needed for the Nord Stream 2 project will be concrete weight coated at Wasco’s coating plants in Kotka, Finland. The ends of the coated pipes will be cleaned thoroughly to remove any concrete residues. Simultaneously, the homogenous and smooth application of the concrete weight coating is checked. The wall thickness varies according to which section of the pipeline they will be used for: The deeper the pipe is laid under water, the thicker the walls are to resist pressure.
