Manual precision work for Nord Stream 2
Europipe in Mühlheim, Germany, produces 90,000 large-diameter pipes for Nord Stream 2 in total. Each pipe measures 12 meters in length and has an internal diameter of 1,153 millimeters. After the pipes are welded, they are inspected internally and externally. Ultrasonic and X-ray inspections are carried out to detect possible material and welding defects. The weld bead height is also checked manually. In fact, more than half of the production steps at the pipe mill are about quality control.
