Manual precision work for Nord Stream 2
Europipe in Mülheim an der Ruhr is producing 90,000 large-diameter pipes for Nord Stream 2. Each pipe segment is 12 metres long and has a constant internal diameter of 1,153 millimetres. Once the pipes have been welded shut, they are inspected inside and out. Ultrasound and x-ray technology is used to identify potential flaws in the material or the weld seams. The seams that seal the pipes off lengthwise are also smoothened out. More than half of the production steps in Europipe’s plant are about quality control.
