Concrete weight coating in Kotka: Protective caps for storage

The concrete weight coated pipes undergo a 14 hours long special steam curing process. Afterwards, they will be inspected once again to ensure that Nord Stream 2’s quality specifications are met with regard to hardness, density and outside diameter. In a next step, the pipes receive protective end caps to avoid external damage during storage. Like the wire cages, every cap has a unique identification number to match its pipe. Almost half of the 200,000 pipes required for the Nord Stream 2 project will be concrete weight coated at Wasco’s coating plants in Kotka, Finland.
