Building one of the world’s longest offshore natural gas pipelines is a massive undertaking that involves the cooperation of leading pipeline contractors from across the globe.
The twin pipeline will stretch over 1,230 kilometres through the Baltic Sea from the Russian to German coast. This route largely runs parallel to the existing Nord Stream system, and has been comprehensively researched by our survey team. On each end, landfall facilities will be constructed to suit local conditions, with the pipeline laid along the seabed in between. Each step of the way Nord Stream 2 will work with some of the world’s leading suppliers and apply rigorous environmental, health, safety and social standards to protect the sensitive Baltic Sea environment. All works are carried out in compliance with national permit conditions and monitored for potential impacts on the environment and marine life. These effects include factors like water turbidity and noise, for example.
