Chief Executive Officer
As Chief Executive Officer at Nord Stream 2 AG, Matthias Warnig oversees every aspect of the company’s operations.
Until September 2015 Mr Warnig served as a Managing Director for the existing Nord Stream Pipeline project, a role he took on in 2006.
From 1990 until 2006 Mr Warnig held several positions at the Dresdner Bank AG and was, among other duties, in charge of establishing the French-German “BNP-Dresdner Bank”, which was the first foreign-capital bank in Russia.
Previously, Mr Warnig had several functions in the German Democratic Republic’s government from 1981 to 1990, including roles in the foreign trade ministry and the Cabinet.
Mr Warnig is a graduate of the Bruno Leuschner Higher School of Economics (Berlin-Karlshorst) majoring in "National Economy".
Mr Warnig is a member of the Board of Directors of Transneft, member of VTB Bank Supervisory Board, Deputy Chairman of Rosneft Board of Directors, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of UC RUSAL, as well as a Member of the Administrative Councils of GAZPROM Schweiz AG (Switzerland) and of Gas Project Development Central Asia AG.
In 2012 Mr Warnig was awarded the Order of Honour of the Russian Federation.
He speaks German (native), English and Russian.
Chief Financial Officer
As Nord Stream 2 AG’s Chief Financial Officer, Paul Corcoran manages the company’s financial data and planning.
He took on the role in January 2016 after serving as Finance Director for the existing Nord Stream AG project from its inception in 2006.
After beginning his career in civil engineering, Mr Corcoran changed to finance and worked for 5 years with STC Telecommunications. In 1998, he went on to begin a series of roles within the BASF Group, including that of Finance Director for both BASF Antwerpen NV and Wintershall AG, the company’s German oil and gas subsidiary.
He holds a degree in civil engineering from Liverpool University and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
He speaks English (native), Dutch and German.
Chief Project Officer
As Chief Project Officer, Henning Kothe leads the specific Nord Stream 2 project teams and is responsible for manging the project from the planning phase to completion including handover to operations.
He came to the current position after serving in a similar function at the Nord Stream AG project, where he began in 2006 as Commercial Director and was promoted to Project Director in 2009.
In 1996, Mr Kothe began working for German energy company E.ON Ruhrgas AG in various financial functions. Prior to joining Nord Stream, he was Head of Controlling for investment projects and operations. After completing his studies, Mr Kothe joined the international consultancy firm A.T. Kearney, working as a Management Consultant in several fields of industry.
He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin.
He speaks German (native) and English.
Chief Commercial Officer
As Chief Commercial Officer for Nord Stream 2 AG, Reinhard Ontyd is responsible for the company’s commercial activities, involving procurement, permitting and legal affairs.
Mr Ontyd served in a similar post for the existing Nord Stream Pipeline project as Compliance Officer. He has been working in the energy industry for his entire professional career, having first started at Ruhrgas AG, Germany. Before joining the Nord Stream Pipeline project, he worked for Germany`s E.ON group, where he held various senior positions in the area of law, management of long-term gas supply contracts and project management over the last 20 years.
Mr Ontyd holds a degree in law.
He speaks German (native) and English.
Chief Technical Officer
As Chief Technical Officer for Nord Stream 2 AG, Sergey G. Serdyukov oversees technical and scientific activities at the company.
He came to the role after serving as Technical Director for the Nord Stream AG project starting in 2006.
Mr Serdyukov has decades of experience in pipeline construction, beginning his career at OAO Gazprom in 1976. He went on to become head engineer for major Russian gas pipelines, in addition to representing the gas industry for an industrial association and working for the Ministry of Construction of Enterprises in the oil and gas industry.
Mr Serdyukov returned to OAO Gazprom in 1995 to serve as Director General for the company now known as OOO Gazprom Transgaz St Petersburg.
He holds a degree in automations and telecommunications from Russia’s Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute.
He speaks Russian (native), English and German.
